Cryogenic treatment brings this world-famous interconnect to new heights! Like other cables in the DH Labs Cryo series, Air Matrix Cryo is far smoother, clearer and sweeter on the top-end than the cable it is based on. To distinguish this Cryo edition from regular Air Matrix Cryo, this cable receives model-specific badging and a handsome woven jacket.

The original Air Matrix Interconnect is renowned for delivering reference-grade uncolored sound with extraordinary resolution. It has remained the cable of choice for some of the world s finest pro-audio and mastering engineers for 20+ years. This cable delivers powerful, tight bottom end, engaging midrange bloom, and clean extended highs.

The cable features multi-strand, silver-coated Continuous CrystalTM copper conductors in our proprietary ultra low-loss Air-PTFE dielectric, which is actually 60% air to bring the openness and immediacy of having no dielectric at all while properly controlling electromagnetism and reducing noise. As a result, soundstage detail and depth are energized, delivering razor sharp focus, and making listening a near visual experience. We finish by cryo-treating the cable, which delivers deeper spatial cues, a wider sound-stage, and more vivid imaging than the original Air Matrix.

Fully shielded and low in capacitance, Air Matrix is ideal when long cable runs are required. Each cable is carefully terminated in custom machined pure copper RCA connectors or with our high performance gold-plated OFC XLR connectors. The Air Matrix represents the culmination of everything we have accomplished in cable design while maintaining our goal of affordability in the often high-priced world of audiophile cables.

What is going on with CRYO Treatment and Audio Cables?
Despite all the wild claims, DH Labs believes the only truthful answer is that no one really knows for sure. The exact mechanics of the process are proven by metallurgists to increase the strength and durability of metals. With cables, it is speculated that the crystal boundaries of the conductor are being changed/improved and that the dielectric material also experiences a positive improvement.

Physical/mechanical properties of the metal appear to be altered which is why an instrument like a French Horn will have superior resonant qualities after cryogenic treatment. From a subjective standpoint, common evaluations of cryo-treated vs non cryo-treated cables are:

  • Wider Dynamic Range
  • Smoother, More Refined Highs

  • Better Bass Articulation/Extension

  • A More Organic Presentation

  • Deeper & More Dimensional Soundstage

DH Labs has developed their Deep-Cryogenic processing specifically for audio cables and connectors. This consists of a computer-controlled, slow cool-down cycle down to the temperature of nitrogen at -320 Degrees F. By introducing these lower temperature by means of a heat-exchanger, they are able to prevent the materials from being cold-shocked by direct contact with liquid nitrogen. Once the materials reach -320 degrees, they are cold-soaked for an extended period before being slowly ramped back up to ambient room temperature. The best part is that once treated, the cryogenic effect becomes permanent!
